چکیده

The immunosuppressive properties of Glucuronoxylomannnan (GXM), a purified capsular polysaccharide of the opportunistic fungus Cryptococcus neoformans, have been extensively elucidated. GXM can inhibit the function of cells belonging to both the innate and adaptive immune systems, leading to inhibition of proinflammatory responses as well as of autoimmune inflammation. This review focuses on the role of GXM as a novel anti-inflammatory agent and puts in perspective the direct implications of its potential destination to clinical trials.

Anti-CD19 Monoclonal Antibodies: a New Approach to Lymphoma Therapy

CD19 is expressed on B- lineage cells and follicular dendritic cells and plays a key role in B cell malignancies and autoimmune diseases. Thus, it has been considered as potential target for several monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). For decades, chemotherapy has been known as one of the major antitumor therapies eradicating high proliferative tumor cells. But, anti- CD19 mAbs developed for treating...

TLRs and IFNs: critical pieces of the autoimmunity puzzle.

Discoveries revealing the molecular basis of innate immune responses, particularly the identification of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) as the major recognition sensors for microbial and even self-molecules, have provided new insights into the pathogenesis of both systemic and organ-specific autoimmune diseases. These insights will permit the development of novel treatment modalities for these diso...

Molecular mechanisms of autoimmunity triggered by microbial infection

Autoimmunity can be triggered by microbial infection. In this context, the discovery of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) provides new insights and research perspectives. TLRs induce innate and adaptive antimicrobial immune responses upon exposure to common pathogen-associated molecules, including lipopeptides, lipopolysaccharides, and nucleic acids. They also have the potential, however, to trigger a...

P159: New Findings in The Diagnosis of Autoimmune Diseases of the Nervous System

The antibody of the nervous system is called antibodies that the body makes to the nervous system cells. These antibodies are also very diverse based on the complexity and diversity of the nervous system, and therefore their detection is also associated with particular challenges. Generally, autoimmune diseases are on the rise. The diagnostic techniques for autoimmune diseases are also in progr...

Antibody-Mediated Catalysis in Infection and Immunity.

The existence of catalytic antibodies has been known for decades. Natural antibodies capable of cleaving nucleic acid, protein, and polysaccharide substrates have been described. Although the discovery of catalytic antibodies initially aroused great interest because of their promise for the development of new catalysts, their enzymatic performance has been disappointing due to low reaction rate...
